The Challenge

Whilst preparing a new BigCommerce store to boost their online business, Piksters realised that they had the perfect opportunity to get a new website design and automate several of their key business processes to improve their customer experience. Whilst the old online store had a basic integration with their SAGE200 ERP, the new BigCommerce storefront had the potential for advanced accounting modules and widgets; not only could the bulk of accounting work be automated, but new ways to do B2B business could be introduced. They wanted wholesale pricing, debtor-matched orders, BundleB2B app compatibility, SAGE invoices sent to BigCommerce, a pay-on-account method, backorder tracking and more. To achieve this bold vision, Piksters partnered with Convert Digital for the build and MyIntegrator, as we have extensive experience in both BigCommerce and SAGE automation. We were thus tasked with not only replicating the original integration for the new website, but also improving it through the development of custom BigCommerce apps and modules in order to produce a premium accounting integration with SAGE200.

The Solution

Whilst we’re familiar with BigCommerce stores, every SAGE200 set-up can be different, and so we worked with the team at Piksters to analyse and understand their accounting flow and business processes. In this way we gained comprehensive, intimate knowledge of their procedures and an understanding of how we could best automate them.  

Our integration was built as a complete end-to-end automation of the core eCommerce accounting tasks, with several new modules and interfaces added to the BigCommerce storefront to provide their customers extra functionality.

To begin with, a product sync was established between SAGE and BigCommerce, enabling Piksters to effortlessly update product data, documents, and images, as well as manage variation products. Additionally, we integrated a feature that combines a minimum order quantity with an “increment by logic” mechanism, where the increment is determined based on the minimum order quantity selected. Along with products, inventory is integrated to keep available stock consistent between the store and the ERP, with backorders enabled for certain products based off of a SAGE control field. Similarly, SAGE200 customer accounts are automatically mirrored in BigCommerce, with B2B customers having their personal pricing policies and payments linked to the BundleB2B plugin. These customers can enjoy wholesale selling, setup with their price policies as well as customer-based shipping via ship-on-carrier-account functionality. Further B2B customisations we implemented include quantity-based pricing, B2B-exclusive products and custom payment options, including a pay-on-account and purchase-order option, available to B2B customers in the checkout. 

Payments are integrated with both BundleB2B whilst invoices are automatically generated in SAGE200 and made available though the BigCommerce ‘my profile’ section for customers to browse, download and if needed, pay remotely. Orders themselves are pushed from BigCommerce to SAGE as soon as they’re placed, with debtor-matching for B2B customers, and afterwards a custom order module will sync the SAGE order back into BigCommerce for the customer to view and monitor as the status is updated.
