Streamlining Multi-Location Retail Operations through Inventory Synchronisation & BOPIS Integration

Winter Timber Outdoors required a reliable way to synchronise inventory between their in-store AIM / Tritech system and their BigCommerce store. With multiple physical locations operating alongside their online storefront, accurate stock visibility was essential, including variant-level quantities and location-specific availability.

The business needed to ensure that inventory data from AIM / Tritech flowed into BigCommerce accurately and updated the Multi Location Inventory (MIL) app to reflect correct stock levels across all locations. In addition, Winter Timber Outdoors wanted to implement Buy Online, Pick Up In Store (BOPIS) functionality across multiple stores.

A key requirement was maintaining compatibility with their existing ShipperHQ configuration and custom checkout script. Any changes needed to work within the current checkout structure without disrupting established shipping logic.

To meet these requirements, a standalone integration application was installed on the client’s local system to synchronise inventory from AIM / Tritech to BigCommerce. The application pushes inventory data, including variant-level stock quantities, into an integration layer that updates the Multi Location Inventory app within BigCommerce.

This ensures stock accuracy across physical store locations, the online storefront, and individual SKU variants. Inventory updates are synchronised into the MIL system to reflect correct location-level availability.

The Multi Location Inventory app was installed and configured within BigCommerce. The implementation was completed without disruption to store operations, and the standard configuration met the client’s operational requirements. Location-level stock displays correctly on product pages, and no structural changes to the product setup were required.

To enable BOPIS, ShipperHQ shipping methods were integrated with the MIL configuration. Shipping options were leveraged to represent pickup locations, allowing customers to select their preferred store during checkout. The selected pickup location maps directly to the MIL system. This approach maintained compatibility with the existing ShipperHQ configuration and preserved the current checkout setup.

Two additional requests were reviewed during the project. Moving the pickup selection to the top of checkout was not implemented due to the existing custom checkout script and the risk of conflict. Overriding the BigCommerce order “shipping method” field to display the selected pickup location was also not possible due to platform limitations within the MIL system. Instead, the selected pickup location is stored in staff notes for operational reference.

Winter Timber Outdoors now has synchronised inventory between AIM / Tritech and BigCommerce, including variant-level stock quantities and multi-location visibility through the MIL app. Customers can select a pickup location during checkout using ShipperHQ shipping options, with selections mapped to the inventory system.

The system operates within the existing checkout configuration and supports the client’s operational workflow without disrupting established customisations.
